FAQs
Welcome to the MÈILI Jewellery FAQ page. Here you'll find answers about our materials, pearls, finishes, care, packaging, shipping, and returns.
Materials
What materials does MÈILI Jewellery use?
MÈILI Jewellery offers pieces made with freshwater pearls, sterling silver, high-quality stainless steel, and cubic zirconia, depending on the design. Some styles also feature finishes such as gold plating, PVD gold plating, or rhodium plating. For the most accurate information, please check the material details on each individual product page.
Are your pearls real freshwater pearls?
Yes. Our pearl styles use freshwater pearls. Because pearls are natural materials, slight variations in shape, size, surface, and lustre can occur. We see these natural differences as part of the individuality and character of pearl jewellery.
Are all MÈILI Jewellery pieces made from the same materials?
No. Materials vary by design. Not every piece includes pearls, sterling silver, stainless steel, or plated finishes in the same way, so product-specific details should always be checked on each listing.
What is cubic zirconia in jewellery?
Cubic zirconia is a man-made stone used in selected MÈILI Jewellery designs for its bright, clear appearance and refined detail. It is chosen to add light and polish while keeping the overall look wearable and elegant.
Why may pearls vary slightly from one piece to another?
Because freshwater pearls are natural, each pearl may vary slightly in shape, surface, size, and lustre. We see this as part of the organic beauty of pearl jewellery rather than a flaw.
Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel and Finishes
What does sterling silver mean?
Sterling silver, often marked as 925 silver, is an alloy containing 92.5% silver. It is widely used in jewellery and valued for its bright appearance, timeless feel, and versatility.
Is 925 silver the same as sterling silver?
Yes. In jewellery, 925 silver and sterling silver refer to the same material standard.
Will sterling silver tarnish over time?
Yes. Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time, especially if exposed to moisture or air, but gentle cleaning and dry storage help maintain its appearance.
What is stainless steel jewellery?
High-quality stainless steel is a durable jewellery material known for its strength, clean appearance, and ease of wear. At MÈILI Jewellery, it is used in selected designs that suit a refined and practical everyday style.
What is gold plating?
Gold plating is a surface finish in which a thin layer of gold tone is applied over a base material. It gives jewellery a warm, polished look, but like most plated finishes, it benefits from careful wear and storage.
Is gold-plated jewellery the same as solid gold?
No. Gold-plated jewellery has a gold-toned surface layer over a base material and is not solid gold.
What is PVD gold plating?
PVD gold plating is a coating process used on selected jewellery designs, often on stainless steel pieces. It is generally chosen for a more durable finish compared with standard gold plating, while still benefiting from mindful care.
What is rhodium plating?
Rhodium plating is a bright silver-toned finish used on selected jewellery pieces. It is often applied to enhance shine and create a clean, reflective appearance.
What is the difference between gold plating, PVD gold plating, and rhodium plating?
Gold plating, PVD gold plating, and rhodium plating are all surface finishes, but they differ in process, appearance, and use. Gold plating is usually used for warm gold-toned finishes, PVD gold plating is commonly associated with certain stainless steel pieces, and rhodium plating is generally used for a bright silver-toned finish.
Will plated jewellery wear over time?
All plated finishes can change gradually with wear over time, especially if exposed often to water, perfume, lotions, cosmetics, or friction. Gentle care helps preserve the appearance for longer.
Is PVD gold plating more durable than standard gold plating?
In general, PVD gold plating is chosen for improved durability compared with standard gold plating, especially on certain stainless steel designs. Even so, it should still be cared for thoughtfully.
Care
Is MÈILI Jewellery suitable for everyday wear?
Yes. MÈILI Jewellery is designed for everyday wear, with a focus on refined pieces that feel easy to style, easy to gift, and easy to live with. Care still matters, especially for pearls and plated finishes.
Is your jewellery waterproof?
Not all jewellery is designed for prolonged exposure to water. To help preserve pearls, plated finishes, and overall appearance, we recommend removing jewellery before showering, swimming, or exercising.
How should I care for pearl jewellery?
Pearl jewellery should be treated gently. Avoid prolonged contact with water, perfume, hairspray, lotions, and cosmetics. Wipe gently after wear with a soft cloth and store carefully when not in use.
How should I care for sterling silver jewellery?
Sterling silver can naturally tarnish over time. Store it in a dry place and clean it gently with a soft cloth or suitable silver polishing cloth when needed.
How should I care for plated jewellery?
To help preserve plated finishes, avoid frequent exposure to moisture, perfume, lotions, cosmetics, household chemicals, and unnecessary friction. Store pieces carefully when not in use.
Should I avoid water, perfume, or cosmetics?
Yes. To help preserve pearls, plated finishes, and the overall appearance of your jewellery, it is best to avoid direct or prolonged exposure to water, perfume, lotions, cosmetics, and household chemicals.
