Our Story
If you have a daughter, you’ll know just how fascinated they are by their mother’s world —her dresses, her lipsticks, her heels.
They want to touch everything, try everything, and twirl in front of the mirror, at least when they’re little. You know exactly what I mean.
One day, mine found her way into my jewellery box. Piece by piece, she pulled everything out, layering it all on like a big, walking jewellery stand.
Then she unclasped a string of freshwater pearls from her neck and said, “Mama, when you die, can I have this?”
I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. I’d never actually worn that necklace myself, though it had been with me for years.
I suppose I was always waiting for a special occasion — so much so that I’d almost forgotten it existed.
But why wait? Today would do just fine.
It was a cloudy afternoon. I set down what I was doing, swept my hair behind my ears, and stood before the bathroom mirror as I fastened it around my neck.
In the glass, the pearls caught a soft, silvery light. Something stirred within me — a quiet, unexpected joy, small but deeply felt.
I gathered all my other jewellery — looking, touching, remembering. It felt like meeting old friends I’d unintentionally left behind.
Since then, I’ve worn a piece almost every day — not for anyone else, not for any particular reason, but simply because it makes me happy.
And I began to wonder — how many of us do the same?
Busy, giving, always moving, we so often put ourselves last, forgetting the quiet joy of simply being ourselves.
And how precious that joy truly is.
That was when the idea of MÈILI came to me — clear as that first, soft gleam of pearl light.
We believe a small piece of jewellery should never have to wait for a special occasion. Its meaning lies in brightening the everyday — in becoming that gentle reminder, that first light, that helps you see yourself, embrace yourself, and glow softly through the simple, ordinary moments of your life.
